Women in Cars

When the battered body of a university administrator is discovered in his office, the Chancellor, fearing scandal, appoints Robert Dory, a wealthy donor, to conduct an internal investigation. Cory, who is at work on a study of the mystery novel, is also the originator of what he calls the Women in Cars mystery. Its premise is that our illusions about life are more interesting than the ordinary lives we lead. His theory gets tested when he becomes entangled in a real mystery.
